Bright Beginnings is a wonderful, new, state-of-the-art preschool which just recently opened.  It  is the perfect place for his 1st school experience.  Today he said, “Mommy, I’m ready.  Let’s go!”  Super adorable. Super sweet. Our kids are the best.

Well, I will have to say that the girls hit the jackpot too. Avery and Amelia managed to score the two best teachers in the county (I’m hoping their teachers read my blog– as flattery usually scores a few points in the grades department.) Ummm… They are also the most beautiful (more flattery.) What happened to the days when teachers were wrinkly, hairy and old like my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Marshall? She was awful!! .

Anyways, here are some pictures from their first day back and a sneak peek from our session last night. The girls, of course, had to do a fashion show– and because their parents are photographers- they got a fashion photo shoot too. Our babies are growing up!!

Ok, I’m lying… It’s been a few months since i’ve even ventured into the administration area of my blog. Who am i kidding… It’s tough to be on top of EVERYTHING!! I think it has to do with the millions of things on my to-do list since March, including about 30 different weddings and events, my grandma Joyce’s passing, the kids after school activities, and keeping up with all the mis-adventures of Greg– well, blogging has not been my priority. Plus, my type A need to have everything perfect is a major detractor in the roadblock. You see, this blog just simply is not sexy enough for my style. Sure, a prophotoblog template is fine and dandy, but it’s just not singing or speaking to me. With that said, you can expect to see some exciting changes around here in the next few weeks. I recently discovered a fantastic new blog designer who is re-branding my whole site– to make it everything that I want it to be. I cannot wait to unveil what we are making– I am completely thrilled.

I’m also excited about the upcoming wedding season approaching. September, October, November and December have some AMAZiNG weddings in the works– our calendar is bursting with beautiful jobs!! I’m looking forward to this fall and winter season! And over the next several weeks, we are going to spend some time going through this past spring & summer events to share them with guys! We have worked with some incredible couples, so it will be great to FINALLY post them with you to enjoy.

We watched AQUATICA like a hawk– and for 45 minutes–our bid held.  No one bid over us. How can this be? We won 4 tickets to Aquatica for 14 days?!  SCORE!!!  It was the perfect Valentine’s Day Surprise to the Heck kids!  The girls can’t wait for the weather to warm up.

Les & Joyce’s love story is touching.  Masterfully crafted.  And a truth to the existence of true love.  Today is the day that they met.  65 years ago in this hour.

My grandparents were introduced by friends on a blind date.  The year was 1946 and they were meeting at a hockey game.  The Detroit Red Wings vs. the Boston Bruins.  I loved hearing Grandpa recount this story for his grandkids just a few days ago.  He’s always been a soft soul, but hearing him tell his love story for Gramma was touching for everyone.  With tears in his eyes, we listened as he told us that upon meeting Gramma, it was love at first sight.  In the moment they met, that was it.  He was hers and she was his.  Grandpa proposed to Gramma not too long thereafter– at the top of a ferris wheel.  When asked about the ferris wheel- he said with a wink, “Well,  I knew she wouldn’t be able to get away.”  When I think about them at 26 years old– with pin-curled hair, tailored suits and beautiful corsages atop a ferris wheel– I can only smile.  My grandma & grandpa’s love story is just like The Notebook.  Only better.

I’ve watched them my entire life.  In there subtle ways, teaching me what love means.   Holding hands.  Playing cards with each other.  Kissing each other good night.  Together, Les & Joycie made it through the rain.  They made it through the joys.  Even illness & the loss of family & friends.  They’ve enjoyed having 5 kids, 6 grandkids and 4 great-grandkids.  This weekend, Grandpa told me that if he’d known better, he would have had 5 more kids.  Grandpa & Gramma have always been there for each other.  For 64 years. Holding each other each and every night.  I’ve never know one without the other.  And at 90 & 91 years young, they’ve grown old together.  The way it is supposed to be.  The reason you get married– to spend a lifetime with someone and have all these experiences.  As a grandchild to witness this– it’s been extraordinary.

On Friday, our sweet, sweet Gramma passed away.  She died in their home surrounded by her family.  And today, in honor of there 65th Valentine’s Day and chance introduction, we all said goodbye to her during a beautiful service.  She was surrounded with perfect pink roses, her treasured artwork and many, many friends.  And although it is painful to watch someone slip away, it is most painful to watch their partner stand alone.  For what seems like the first time and say Goodbye.

I know what love is.   I’ve been schooled in love all my entire life.  Today was a sad day– but also a day to say Thank you.  Thank you Gramma and Grandpa for the gift of sharing your love with each of us and teaching us by all that you do.   Your love is an inspiration.

A time to notice other member’s thoughtfulness & all-around good experiences on campus. We would also announce thorns. Things that really rubbed us the wrong way– whether it was the chef’s meatloaf- or a nasty professor– it was a good way to let off some steam. So– given that I am still working in the world of flowers– I think the “Roses & Thorns” scenario is quite appropriate and today mark’s my first attempt at announcing these notations of the week.

ROSES to Owen Chittenden at The Hilton Resort for inviting Greg and I to the annual Children’s Advocacy Dinner & Silent Auction last night. Thank you Owen! We had a great time getting all dressed up, drinking champagne, and bidding on some great prizes for a great cause. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We actually were surprised to win 3 great prizes.  ROSES for Silent Auctions in general. Wesh2′s own Jim Payne was the MC for the night, and Greg had fun stalking him with his iPhone. It was good for a laugh or two. So ROSES to Apple for having a somewhat decent camera feature to allow us to stalk unnoticably.

THORNS to my facebook friends who continually tag me on the pictures from last weeks 80′s party at Joe & Shelly’s house.  The party was so much fun– however I completely overcommitted to going back to the era– and I fear these images will haunt me FOREVER!! I will admit- I enjoyed my leopard print tights, side ponytail, beauty mark and blue eyeshadow a wee bit too much.  Added THORNS to my handsome George Michael impersonator (Greg) for allowing me to leave the house so atrociously.  And THORNS to the Madonna look-alike who beat me in the costume competition at the party.

Happy SUPER BOWL Sunday!  May the team with the best uniform win this year.

]]> http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/my-kids-this-fall/feed/ 1 Groundhogs Day + Every day is a holiday http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/groundhogs-day-every-day-is-a-holiday/ http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/groundhogs-day-every-day-is-a-holiday/#comments Wed, 02 Feb 2011 17:05:34 +0000 admin2 http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/?p=2171 When I woke up this morning- I didn’t realize it was a holiday.  (Although if you ask my assistant Samantha, she will tell you that EVERY day is a holiday.)  But today,  I started my day as I do– the same basically as every other day.  Shower.  Brush my teeth.  Pick out my most fashionable scarf.  Kiss my little boy.  Kiss my big boy.  Then hop in my wonderful white mystery van and I’m off….  I typically cannot start my day without a cup of coffee.  So I roll into Dunkin’ Donuts and for only $1.91– I purchase complete joy in a cup. (Starbuck’s, I realize is a sexier option, but a) it’s more expensive and b) it’s out of my way.)   And then it hits me.  Today is Groundhog’s Day.  And I laugh.  My mind immediately flashs to a picture of Bill Murray wearing a trenchcoat– in his most famous role as arrogant Weatherman Phil Connor sent to cover the Punxsutawney ceremony.  Poor Phil relives Groundhog’s Day over and over and over again until he gets the day “right”.

And as much as my day is the same… it is nearly always different.  I’m thankful for that.  Something different and someone different is always part of my routine.  And as I was reflecting about this phenomenon, I made a quick pit stop to Publix.  I was wandering through the store– thinking about my good fortune– who I would meet today?  Who would I bump into?  What new thing would happen to me?  Well, none of that happened.  I met no one new.  So– I kept on.   I hopped into my van to drive away– and poof– Crank…nothing happened.  The battery in my car was dead.  DEAD!   And as I got out of the car to call Greg– I locked the door.  And in that moment I realized I left my keys in the ignition.  Yep.  I did this.  Locked myself right out of my car.  Stranded at Publix with a dead battery and no keys.  This day has never happened before.  Ever.  And I hope I NEVER does again.

So in honor of experiencing something different everyday– I wish you each a Happy Groundhog’s Day.   Let’s hope tomorrow brings a holiday where cars start and doors open.   (BTW- Puxsutawney Phil did see his shadow I hear.  So, does this mean Spring comes early or late?  I forget…)

I’m challenging myself to post something on my blog every day for one month.  Yes, me.  Everyday.  For one month.  Is this possible?  Is this challenge something that I can do?  I chose February partially because it is the most recent month– but also because it is the shortest month of the year!  Yes, if I can do any month– February is the one.  I read a lot of blogs on the internet– and I have my favorites (perhaps I will share that for an upcoming post when I run out of things to say)– but I find that the blogs I love–challenge themselves in this way.  The writers write everyday.

I have a few things that I can hopefully fill the time– the space– the post– and I’m hoping it will be interesting.  If you think so– please let me know.  If you’ve stumbled across my blog– why, make a comment.  Humor me in this manner.  I often wonder if I’m sending my blogs into an endless void– or do people read them??

]]> http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/28-day-challenge/feed/ 1 Getting into the Christmas spirit! http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/getting-into-the-christmas-spirit/ http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/getting-into-the-christmas-spirit/#comments Sun, 28 Nov 2010 19:25:44 +0000 admin2 http://www.flowersandphotography.com/blog/?p=1796 Alright- so I really am a terrible blogger.  I admit it.  I start off on a really good foot– with the best of intentions… and suddenly POOOOOFFFF!!!!  There is no time in my life for updating a BLOG.  Since October- our studio has participated in nearly 20 events.  Yes.  Twenty.  Gosh… I get tired just thinking about it.  This blog really had to take the back seat.  When it comes to sitting down writing something thoughtful, and processing and the DETAILS- and posting– I was already wrapped up in another event.  So, here I am.  Playing catch up.  But that’s ok.  The last two months have been quite a whirlwind and we are so thankful to be busy.  The last 8 weeks have been filled with so many wonderful memories and AWESOME moments.  Sometimes I cannot believe all the wonderful people who have come into our life.  Many stories to tell…

But before I start posting all of these events- I’m going to share a bit about our family.  We FINALLY took some time to get the kids together for the annual Christmas card photo.  We were some happy to utilize our beautiful studio space to take these pictures.  The kids were, for once, mostly cooperative.  Aiden was partially interested– but for the first time EVER- we didn’t lose our voices getting our girls to cooperate.  They LOVED having there pictures taken– and were great little models.  Here are a few of our favorites and the card– I’m so happy to get this checked off my VERY LONG list!!
